The 8 Most Fun Driving Jobs

A-Executive Limousine

Tired of sitting behind that desk? Do you feel your right foot twitching all day imagining you’re behind the wheel pressing on the pedal? Miss that wind in your hair and the rumble of the pavement?

There are a ton of jobs out there that involve driving, so smash your computer, quit your desk job and get behind the wheel! Because you could be getting PAID to drive classic cars onto the auction stage, or even to take a badass race car for a test drive!

Doesn’t sound too bad, eh? Here’s the 8 most fun driving jobs that you could actually work!

Celebrity Chauffeur

Auto Express

What’s the next best thing to being rich and famous? Driving rich and famous people around and being a witness to their extravagant lifestyles.

Being a chauffeur for celebrities gives you the opportunity to interact with some of the biggest stars in the world on a daily basis. And sure, once and while you’re going to get a celeb that’s not exactly polite. Yeah, I’m talking to you, Ellen! Apparently she’s got quite the mean streak.

But on the whole, being able to interact with famous people and see what life is like on the other side is a pretty cool perk of the job. Plus when you tell you’re normal friends that you’ve been bussing around Denzel Washington and Katy Perry, you get to watch their eyes pop out of their heads.

Hey, if you play your cards right, you may even get yourself invited to a couple of ritzy Hollywood parties. And even if you don’t sew yourself into the inner circle of Hollywood, you’re still probably going to bank between $100,000 and $150,000 every year. Pretty sweet pay just to drive people around and keep your car stocked with champagne.

And as you know, celebs want to ride in style, so if you’re lucky, you might even get to drive around on a swanky set of wheels like a Maybach or a Rolls. There’s definitely perks to hanging around the Hollywood elite.

Race Car Test Driver

The New York Times

So, maybe you’ve given up on your childhood dream of being a Formula One racer. Believe me, I get it. You think I’d be writing this blog if I could be out there wheel-to-wheel with Lando Norris and getting paid for it?

But anyway, if you still dream about blazing down the track in a Formula One speed machine, you may be in luck. Being a race car test driver could be an achievable goal if you play your cards right. But if you want to get this job, you’re ging to have to have some serious connections and a history in driving extreme vehicles.

There’s a lot of misconceptions about what a race car test driver actually does. You don’t just hop behind the wheel and go pedal to the metal. The job actually requires methodological testing of every aspect of the vehicle at every speed.

But don’t worry! There are definitely times when you get to test that full speed and feel that G-force pressing against your face. Test drivers for consumer cars make around $50,000-$60,000 a year, but if you’re testing Formula One vehicles, you’re going to be making almost twice that.

If it were me, I’d be fine paying to drive one of those super badass speed machines.

Pizza Delivery

PMQ Pizza Magazine

Now here’s a job that it seems like everyone has had at some point in their life. Pizza delivery isn’t exactly the most glamorous job in the world, but most people who have delivered pizza in their life really enjoy it.

You get to drive around all day, listen to your music on full blast, and get to know the streets of your city. Plus you’re probably going to end up eating some free pizza if you have a good relationship with your boss. And if a cop pulls you over, you can probably make the case that you’re running late for a delivery and get out of a ticket.

So I think we can all agree that idea of riding around and jamming out to your tunes while soaking up the sweet scent of some delicious pizza sounds pretty good. Pizza delivery is a bomb job for sure.

Auto Auctioneer

Hagerty

So, this job actually involves very little driving, but when you are driving, it might be in some of the rarest rides in the whole world

Auto auctioneers mostly just sell rare cars at auctions, but the fact of the matter is, someone has to drive those cars from the lot to the auction stage

And imagine being the guy who got to drive a Duesenberg SSJ onto the stage right before it sold for $22,000,000! Just to put your hands on the wheel of a car that expensive must be like achieving car nirvana!

Not to mention that you get to see some of the coolest cars in the world going up for auction and witness the incredible prices that some people are willing to pay for them.

Pet Taxi

South Baton Rouge Animal Hospital

You’ve probably never even heard of this job, but if you’re an animal-lover, you definitely need to look into being a pet taxi driver

So imagine that you have a pet that needs to go to the vet and you don’t have a car. Who you gonna call? No, not Ghostbusters. You call a pet taxi. They’ll take your pet to and from the vet and make sure it gets the care it needs.

So if you like animals, and you want to help save some lives while getting paid for it, check out being a pet taxi driver! This job pays around $60,000 a year on average, and you’ll get to spend every minute of your workday in the presence of cats and dogs and birds and whatever other animals you can legally own as a pet

If you’re lucky, you might even get to drive around with a chimpanzee! Apparently, there are several states in the US where you can legally own one of those crazy monkeys. Not sure how I feel about that. But I know it’d be pretty cool to roll around with a chimp riding shotgun

Valet

Polo & Tweed

Now I know that it’s probably nobody’s dream job to be a valet. But there are some pretty fun perks to this job.

If you’re working at the Ritz-Carlton or some Michelin star restaurant,  there’s going to be some super expensive rides pulling up. Now, if you’re like me, you’d give just about anything to drive a Rolls-Royce or a Bugatti even for a minute. And if you’re a valet at a nice place, that’s literally your job description!

Your salary’s going to vary depending on what kind of place you work in and what part of the country you’re based in. But if you end up valeting at an upscale spot, you’re going to be raking in a ton of money in tips.

You might even get to drive a famous person’s car if you’re lucky. How cool would it be to say you drove Samuel L Jackson’s 57 S? Or Ice-T’s Bentley Continental GT?

Sure, you might not like those funny hats valets sometimes have to wear, but the rest of the gig sure sounds like a bunch of fun.

Rideshare Driver

The Verge

With the increased popularity apps like Uber and Lyft, there’s nearly endless demands for drivers. So if you’re down to spend your whole day behind the wheel and talking to strangers, download an app and get driving!

Rideshare drivers usually make between $13 and $17 per hour, which is definitely a livable wage. But if you don’t want to drive full time, plenty of people out there are driving in their off hours to earn some extra cash.

The life of an Uber driver is definitely interesting. You get to meet some crazy characters, have some enlightening conversations, and you get to drive all day in whatever car you choose! Unfortunately, you’ve got to maintain that car, but hey, there’s two sides to every coin.

So if you’re the kind of person who loves the feeling of the wind on your face as your cruising down the highway, and you revel in conversation with anyone and everyone, then driving Uber or Lyft could be your perfect gig!

Airport Luggage Delivery

Twitter

Have you ever been sitting on a plane waiting for take off, absentmindedly looking out the window, when you notice that guy driving the huge train of trailers full of luggage, and thought, “hey, that looks kind of fun”?

I mean what’s not to like about that job? You get to burn down the airport runways operating a sweet vehicle full of people’s bags, and you never have to interact with angry customers in the event that you lose one of their bags. Jokes on you, customer service professionals!

If you work this job, you’re probably not going to be living in a mansion, but you’ll make a solid living and get some awesome benefits. These guys make between $30,000 and $54,000 per year.

And guess what, you get discounts at all the airport restaurants and bars! That means when you finish your shift, you can get yourself a discounted Baconator from Wendy’s and then hop over to the airport bar for a couple of rounds!

Sure, even with the discount, you’re probably still paying more at the airport than you would at a normal restaurant, but there’s something to be said for having all the food and booze you could want right in your place of work!
